WELCOME TO THE MILE HIGH MAGICIANS SOCIETY
The Mile High Magicians Society is a Denver-based association of magical enthusiasts dedicated to enjoying, appreciating and advancing the art of magic. Our performing members share their magic in many ways: From entertaining family, friends and neighbors, to street performances, to children’s birthday parties, at restaurants and banquets, at corporate events and on the speaking platform.
We meet monthly and regularly arrange for first-rate performers from around the world to perform and lecture for our members. We are a local chapter of both international magic organizations, the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) #131 and the Society of American Magicians (SAM) Earl Reum Assembly #37.

Presidential Patter – Dan Rodriguez
At the January Past Presidents Banquet, I had so much fun enjoying the food, entertainment and giving out awards, I forgot to present one important award. My bad. In early March, I finally presented the 2024 Members of the Year Award to Joe Given and Carol Massie. Their support of the MHMS last year was invaluable and included putting together an amazing film day and hosting the MHMS return to presenting a public show after a multi-year hiatus. We appreciate their contributions in 2024 with an award that is well deserved.
The March 25th magic show at Gnarly’s Theater in Golden featured two Colorado magicians that were recently featured on Penn & Teller FOOL US. Liam Abner and Shawn Preston may not have fooled Penn & Teller, but they certainly fooled the audience at Gnarly’s. I had the honor to present each of them with a Presidential Citation for their contributions to the art of magic and their recent National TV appearance.
The annual Flea Market returns Thursday, April 10th and will be held at Children’s Haven. Admission is free! Tables are available for sellers at $10 per table. Members of MHMS and other front range clubs get their first table free. This year’s flea market will be expanded as we feature magic from the archives of the S.A.M. Magic Center. Items for sale include a Zig-Zag Illusion, tables, props and grab-bags packed full of packet tricks. If you want a booth, contact Charly Wonder.
Next month we will publish our membership roster that will be available to members only. DON’T BE LEFT OFF THE CONTACT LIST! Pay your membership dues now and you’ll get a complimentary membership name badge in time for the next meeting.

Next Generation Magic Show – March Meeting Minutes
Secretary – AJ Perea | Email AJ
The Mile High Magicians Society hosted 20-something night to showcase some of the younger talent in the club. A.J. Perea emceed the evening. He was confused by the archaic technology of newspapers and tore it up into small pieces. When he wanted to read it, he restored it to its original state right in front of the audience! Later, he wanted to showcase Gen Z technology, so he brought his record collection. Colored changed the color of vinyl records
and changed the songs they played. A yellow record played “Yellow Submarine”. All of the colors together changed the song to “Rainbow Connection”. Jason Fye brought a Rubik’s cube onstage, which has 43 quintillion combinations. The audience mixed it up. Jason attempted to solve it but failed. However, the audience’s scrambled Rubick’s cube exactly matched a second Rubik’s cube that was inside a glass bottle
with a tiny opening. He also brought up a spectator to select a card. The spectator’s card vanished. Luckily Jason brought a balloon that had something in it. When he popped it, the spectator’s card fell onto his hand. Gerald Robinson attempted to perform the linking rings with only one ring. He was able to make a coin appear and disappear as he passed his hand through the silver ring. The coin even changed sizes! He then had a spectator select a page from a novel and remember a word. When the spectator returned to that page, it was ripped out of the book. Gerald made the selected page reappear with the selected word. Shane Cohen had a spectator select a card in the deck. He then had another spectator select a number between one and fifty-two. After the audience shuffled the deck, the selected card appeared in the 17th spot in the deck, which was the selected number. Cohen revealed that he learned the trick from a magic book and showed that it was the 17th trick in the book. The Psychic Soulmates, Anthem and Aria. They had the audience close their eyes and clear their mind. They told everyone to hold out their hand and think of an object. They were able to get most of the audience to think of an apple. They had the audience image a landscape and sent an image of a tree. Aria sat at the front of the stage blindfolded while the audience held up objects. Anthem was able to psychically send an image to Aria who correctly named every object. She was even able to recite the last four digits of a card and the entire serial number of a dollar bill.

He has contributed almost 100 original effects to MAGIC, Genii, Linking Ring, M.U.M., Arcane, Penumbra, Magic Menu, Channel One, Vanish, Labyrinth, Magic seen and other magazines, as well as a full chapter in Paul Harris’ The Art of Astonishment, a chapter in Harry Lorayne’s Best of Friends 3, a chapter in John Lovick’s Switch, and a chapter in the wildly popular Magic for Dummies. Just don’t hold that last one against him! He has performed and lectured on 6 continents, in 47 countries and over 1,000 cities, giving him the experience to add to your own personal experience. Here is what he has to say about his upcoming lecture: “The last time I gave my TICAU 1.0 lecture series, performers all over the country learned some of my best impromptu, EDC and on-the-spot magic effects live and in person. The feedback was incredible, and since then I’ve been trying to figure out how to outdo myself. Over six years later, I’m back with Things I Carry and Use 2.0 – a totally revamped lecture series you won’t want to miss. I’ve got all-new material, updated handlings with motivated psychology, plus a bunch of other exclusive goodies I can’t wait to share with you all. Hope you’ll join us; see you soon!”
