Mile High Magicians Denver Colorado Est. 1941

With the pandemic in the rearview mirror and a clear road ahead of us, membership in the Mile High Magicians Society has never looked better. So, buckle up and enjoy the ride into 2024.

Our mission to accomplish this is three-fold and is as simple as A – B – C.

The ‘A’ stands for Accountability. And, accountability starts with our governing document, the Constitution and Bylaws of the MHMS. Thanks to the Constitution Revision Task Force created over 6-months ago, we have totally cleaned up and improved this most important document. Within the next few days, you will receive an email that includes a copy of the proposed Constitution and Bylaws and a ballot. Only current Active members are eligible to vote.

The ’B’ stands for Benefits. Specifically, I am talking about benefits of membership. We can be more than just a magic club that meets once a month. Starting is 2024, there will be more opportunities for our membership to participate, perform, and learn. Also, we will offer more group events and field trips away from the normal meeting space. Psss…. Your Executive committee is working on some great field trips. More on that soon!

The ’C’ stands for Create Cash Flow. Since the pandemic, we have not put on a public show and have not done a good job collecting membership dues. Without cash, the club cannot provide great benefits. Remember… the pandemic is in the rearview mirror, so we can bring back the public show and invite the dozens of longtime club supporters back to the club.

I am excited to serve as your President in 2024. We have an amazing Executive Committee and some great events in the works. Hold on for the ride!

Greetings fellow MHMS Members,

For as long as I can remember, fall has remained my favorite time of year. Perhaps it’s because I was born in November, making fall the very first season I experienced. Regardless of the reason, I can’t help but cherish every aspect of autumn – the vibrant colors, the joy of holidays, the delightful changes. Each year, it feels like I’m reliving it for the first time. In recent years, I’ve focused on living positively in the present moment, and it makes perfect sense to celebrate the beautiful transitions in both the seasons and life itself. When discussing happiness, gratitude often emerges as a key factor. Like many people, we tend not to spend enough time acknowledging what we’re grateful for, but we should.

Thus, I’m profoundly grateful to be a part of such an incredible club. Every member is invaluable, and I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you. Without your support, MHMS would not thrive as it does. Additionally, I’m thankful for the opportunity to have served on the board each year I did. We, the board, consistently worked our hardest to bring you the meetings and lectures you deserve.

Once again, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to each and every one of you.

Greetings fellow MHMS Members,

The Knights of Columbus has allowed us to use their facility at no charge and in return we want to give back with a thank you show. This is to show our appreciation for the Knights and their families. This show will take place on our regular July meeting date (Thursday, July 13 @ 7pm), you and your family are all welcome to attend.
Performers will be:  Steve Davis, Chad Wonder, John Walker, Gerald Robinson, Glenn Proulx, Gene Gordon and Dan Rodriguez…What a great line up!

Last month we had a lecture by Marcos Waldemar and WOW! He had some killer effects and well thought out routining. If you missed the lecture, then you missed out. We only have a few lectures lined up for the year you definitely don’t want to miss.

Greetings fellow MHMS Members,

Half way through the year and we have had some fantastic meetings with great feedback! Last months meeting was as always a treat to learn some closeup magic. My hats off to Gene Gordon for organizing a fun time for all that attended.

We also had a special lecture by Chad Long brought in by member Shawn Preston. Funny, witty and awesome material. Then a few days later we had Penn & Teller Fool Us winner David Parr come in a give a lecture for the club, then 2 shows at The Theater of Dreams. David was very informative and had some really great material to share.

Want to get on stage? We’re looking for members to volunteer their time for our next meeting which is also a show here at the Knights of Columbus to thank their members for the gracious use of their space. Please email me if you’re interested.

The board has been hard at work to bring in amazing lectures to Denver and working on making each meeting fun and engaging! Keep your eye on this news letter and you will see whats happening next!

Greetings fellow MHMS Members! We started off April with a lecture by Guy Bavli. His lecture was extremely interesting and informative mentalism. I’m sure all in attendance learned something new! The board is working hard to bring top notch lectures to Denver and we’re excited to see you at David Parr a week after this months meeting.

Last months regular gathering was an absolute treat to witness! Brad Montgomery did a fantastic job putting together a fun filled and fooling night. I can only hope that we will continue have a MHMS Fool Us night every year! As usual, Karen Wake did not disappoint with her clever Fool Us sushi… Nope, fooled us with her clever ways.

If you have any shows or events you would like the members to know about, please email us and we will put this on the Website and in the Newsletter. See you at the next meeting!

We’re working hard to make events and meeting amazing and we’d appreciate your feedback by answering this 2-minute “survey.

Dear MHMS members,

WOW! Congrats to Chad Wonder for organizing the MHMS annual flea market which drew in over 120 magicians! I want to thank the sellers for an awesome job!  There was a huge collection of magic props, gizmos and some real gems being sold. So far we have had such a successful year thanks you, the members. We have received extremely positive feedback from so many of you!

Don’t forget we have a lecture by Guy Bavali coming on April 10th at 7pm. This will be FREE to all payed members. If you have not payed you dues, now is the time. Guy is a real working class magician you don’t want to miss.

For this months meeting I am super excited to see what Brad Montgomery has put together for Fool Us MHMS style. Then next month we will keep the fun going with close-up teach in!

What a wonderful year so far!

February’s meeting was a fun evening of magic with adhesives and magnets. We all were entertained and amazed with such creativity from our members. Magic is truly one of the arts we can play with gimmicks and create wonderful magical pieces.

I am so proud of the outstanding work that this group does in encouraging new members to share and learn. Our club is awesome and I can’t wait to see how much we grow as the year continues!

After the Flea Market in 9 days on Thursday March 9th we will have our April meeting of “Mile High Magician’s Fool Us Night!” Start creating your routine now to come and impress the “judges” and have a great time doing so, that’s the reason were having this meeting anyway. More information to come in the following weeks.

Don’t forget to keep your dues up to date to keep the club going. The MHMS Website has a payment portal (click here) to pay dues via credit card or you may pay in person at any of the meetings.

If you have any shows or events you would like the members to know about, please email (click here) and we will put this on Website and in the Newsletter.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to reach out to any member of the board and I’ll see you at the next meeting!

To start of 2023 we had the installation of the new Mile High Magicians’ Society Board. Manon Rodriguez swore us all in.  Jeff Jenson- President, Dan Rodriguez- VP, Glenn Proulx- Secretary, Jason and Heather Toepfer- Treasurer, Jeff and Karen Wake- Sargent of Arms.  After the installation the outgoing and incoming officers performed a superb show!

Dan and Mano performed a fantastic $6 repeat with a McDonalds drive through theme.  After buying a Big Mac, Ice Cream Cone and a Filet of Fish he still had $6 left in his hand.  Jeff and Karen Wake performed with a Joker Tube with a surprise ending of having an orange appear! Jason and Heather Toepfer did a phenomenal coin trick with a coin holder and a box.  After putting the coin in the box, it vanished and ended up on the table.  Kira Fonarro was a guest who performed her juggling act and offered those interested lessons or to attend her workshop.  Glenn Proulx told us a story about an Emperor who was in love and was afraid others where trying to kill him with an Assassin’s Teapot.  The teapot did not have a lid but was still capable of pouring three different colors of liquid from one teapot.  Whit each attempt the liquid changed colors and he ended up drinking Green Tea.  Gerald Robinson made a coin and a marker change places and had 12 cards from one hand end up in his coat pocket.  It was utterly amazing and one of the best cards to pocket we have ever witnessed!  Evan Driggs had two Queens from the deck selected and when he spun them together they blended into one card!  Jeff Jenson showed some store coupons and had a helper tear the paper into strips and smaller pieces.  Audience members each held onto a slip of paper.  After one add was selected it matched the bar code of the store coupon and when the code was turned over it matched the printed item name AND the price! Gene Gordon pulled coins out of his elbow and knees.  Finally he performed a card spelling trick.
