WOW! Congrats to Chad Wonder for organizing the MHMS annual flea market which drew in over 120 magicians! I want to thank the sellers for an awesome job! There was a huge collection of magic props, gizmos and some real gems being sold. So far we have had such a successful year thanks you, the members. We have received extremely positive feedback from so many of you!
Don’t forget we have a lecture by Guy Bavali coming on April 10th at 7pm. This will be FREE to all payed members. If you have not payed you dues, now is the time. Guy is a real working class magician you don’t want to miss.
For this months meeting I am super excited to see what Brad Montgomery has put together for Fool Us MHMS style. Then next month we will keep the fun going with close-up teach in!

We all love performing magic and our June meeting gives you the perfect opportunity to learn the fine art of presentation from some of Denver’s best magicians. Hosted by Dan Rodriguez alongside pro entertainers Shawn Popp, Jeff Jenson, Joe and Carol Givan and theater instructor Tara Hedberg you’ll learn tips and tricks to improve your show or just your favorite effect.
We encourage you to bring your questions and if you’re working on something email Dan here because we’d like to find a member or two to help live at the meeting. We’ve planned a surprise or two! Whether you’re a seasoned pro, a new magic enthusiast, a collector, or a member who enjoys the camaraderie, please come and take part in all the FUN and ENTERTAINMENT, we promise there will be something for everyone.
Our annual Flea Market was a huge success! Twenty-two tables and over 50 members showed up to buy, see and trade. There were lots of book, pamphlets and book test books. Plenty of gadgets, gafts, regular cards, magic decks, pocket tricks. There were parlor, strolling and stage magic for sale. Also for sale was were various illusions, and magic for beginners, advanced and professional magicians. Several members met afterward for food and gathering at the local Chili’s to look at and brag about their latest findings and treasures.

In-person magic learning is finally back after several years on hiatus… It’s ftime to learn great magic up close and personal like it’s supposed to be! Your four teachers were picked from our very local and very skilled MHMS members. Each magician focuses on a different aspect and/or prop to get you up and running with some amazing close-up magic. As in years past you’ll rotate to each teacher and spend about 25 mins with each until you’ve seen them all and are rocking your new magic. Your instructors have been planning some unique and exciting magic and you’ll learn from:
- Matt Brand – Non-card and coin magic
- Nate Reeves – Rubber band magic
- James Lopez – Coin magic
- Gene Gordon – Card Magic Please
It’s HIGHLY recommended you bring with you a:
- deck of cards,
- coins (four of one type),
- rubber bands,
- a close-up pad
This has always been a fun magic-filled night and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Get psyched for OUR April meeting! Brad Montgomery is organizing and hosting FOOL US (Mile High Magicians Style) meaning it’s a feel-good evening and awesome magic show wrapped around the Penn & Teller Fool Us theme. Brad wants everyone to perform, including you Brad (even a non-magician can Fool Us with a good trick)!
IMPORTANT: this show will be a celebration of ALL performers. Fooling the panel is not important. Magicians of all ages and skill levels are wanted. If you perform, you can expect to be complimented, celebrated and treated with dignity and even joy.

Since February is the month of Valentines Day we had a Stuck on You meeting. Anything that sticks is what you perform, Velcro, magnets, double sided tape, sticky notes, rubber cement, glue, etc. As a performer you could perform or reveal the method of the magic. Jeff Jenson suggested using magnets on the Twentieth Century Silk trick. Tape can also be used to accomplish a double lift.
Gene Gordon performed Dave Neighbors coins across to his pocket one at a time. He did a nice card trick where the spectator could lie, tell the truth or do both. The card was found by spelling. Next he did a nice card to impossible location.
Glenn Proulx performed the Appearing Car by Hyde Ren. Demonstrated how he rewired a flameless candle to turn on with a PK ring, made three different color ropes link, changed a spoon into a fork and finally did Pavel’s Flash Rope Restoration.
Matt Brandt made 3 coins appear and disappear. Then he had a sticky note signed and wrapped around a bill. He shoved a pencil through it and the hole was only in the sticky note and not the bill!
Dan Rodriguez suggested a way to use car door magnets to help your marketing and also suggested if your logo was painted on the car to use door magnet placard’s to cover your logo to be in compliance with your local HOA. Especially, if you park your car in the driveway. Another nice thing would be to make a refrigerator magnet of the birthday child as a give away.
Marty Jewell, the Queen of Puns in our club did a nice card stab with a balloon! She had a stick in her hair, please stick around (because most sticks are round and you wave it in a circle!) stick to your routine, she had tape stuck to a deck for her tape deck, and make sure you stick-it-to-em.
New member Vespa, performed Ron Frost’s trick from the Wax museum using magicians wax. He had a box to trap daemons. Cards were selected from a tarot deck and by using a Devil puppet the Evil Eye found the spectators card miniature in size!
Ralph MacIntosh did a nice tossed out deck prediction with the help of some bricks. It was a trick by Cody Fisher, $100 Bill Trick.
Steve Spangler talked about how magnets are used in vending machines to make sure bills are real. How to use a neodymium magnet to check a bill, how Malt-O-Meal and Wonder Bread are fortified with iron. It was a magnetic night of magic that held our attention!
February’s meeting was a fun evening of magic with adhesives and magnets. We all were entertained and amazed with such creativity from our members. Magic is truly one of the arts we can play with gimmicks and create wonderful magical pieces.
I am so proud of the outstanding work that this group does in encouraging new members to share and learn. Our club is awesome and I can’t wait to see how much we grow as the year continues!
After the Flea Market in 9 days on Thursday March 9th we will have our April meeting of “Mile High Magician’s Fool Us Night!” Start creating your routine now to come and impress the “judges” and have a great time doing so, that’s the reason were having this meeting anyway. More information to come in the following weeks.
